Hi, my name is Chia Chia Tu. I’m from Taiwan, and I’ve been in SF for two years.

I studied international business for my bachelor degree. I spend one year in Graphic design department before I change my major to Web Design/New media in AAU.

I’m a dog lover. I got a husky back in Taiwan. Dogs need lot of attention, so I spent a lot of time on him. I also love to travel and draw in my free time, plus going to concert, listening to music, etc.

Abstract

What is Pattern?
Pattern is a new fun app for creating beautiful custom patterns for wallpapers. Pattern provides retro elements for you to customized your unique design, you can even cut out your photos to be an elements of the pattern.

Pattern allows you to create amazing retro pattern artwork on your iPhone. Artwork can be used for wallpaper, e-cards, printing, or do whatever you want with it. Simply just use your fingers to click, drag, and scale the elements to design your one and only pattern, the only limit is your own creativity.

I often ask myself one question, why is it so hard to find a wallpaper for my iPhone. I don’t want to just use any picture and to set it as background. The icons for the apps are the main objects on the screen, if I set a beautiful picture as background, it will ruin the picture. And now with the new icon design with iOS 7, the icon is so much bigger and with brighter color, and it is even hard to find wallpaper that I love to match those big icons on the background.

My target audience is creative people who want to make their wallpaper unique and like vintage style. I want to use retro color for pattern design, because it is more neutral and muted so that is will not fight with the bright new icons.

It is really hard to find some nice wallpaper for iPhone because its tiny screen. If it is for my laptop screen, it is so much easier. There aren’t many things on desktop, only a few icons. So basically most image/photo will work well as wallpaper for a large screen. I want to use this opportunity to create something that I will love to use and have passion for. I want to use my creativity and design skills to make Pattern a simple, fun and easy to use mobile app. I also got inspired by scrapbook, a retro style feeing. Cutting out people or object from the picture you take and make it into an element for the background, every wallpaper create by Pattern is unique and made by you.
